I was about to meet Janna and Jason for the first time. While Isabelle was super excited to reconnect with Janna whom she had worked with at a summer job almost 10 years ago, I was definitely looking forward to meeting the couple but nervous about how it would go. Would we hit it off? Would I be able to get this camera-shy couple to relax a bit in front of the lens?
I was additionally nervous because I knew they are big fans of the sunset photos and the forecast for that weekend was everything but sunny skies (I regret not taking an iphone photo of the weather predictions to post on this blog beside the photos we got that evening. No word of a lie, there was an actual “severe thunderstorm warning” in effect for the whole London area).
Oh! And this would also be the first time I would be working with a couple in English! Would I be able to give correct directions? Would they understand me?! (Sometimes Isabelle says I make up words! But she makes up French words, so it’s all good.)
We were meeting at a gorgeous location, a farm that belongs to friends of theirs just outside of Delaware. The minute they stepped out of their car, I relaxed. Janna and Jason are incredibly laid-back, easy going and friendly.
They fit together so naturally, and clearly bring out the best of one another. This was visible in every one of their interactions and in the photographs we got as well.
I have all the respect in the world for people who have difficulty being photographed but decide to give it a go anyway. It is hard work to be photographed and frankly, they did an awesome job! I only had to ask these two to turn to each other and the most honest, deep-felt loving look would appear on their faces.
We hit it off, we got our sunny skies and I even think my English wasn’t half that bad!
I’m thrilled to be working with such a charming couple and very excited to shoot their wedding next summer at the stunning À la Carte Occasions venue.
